Littleton Chambers is seeking an organised, enthusiastic and proactive individual to join their clerking team as a Junior Clerk. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for someone looking to develop a career in clerking to assist in the smooth and effective running of Chambers.

Job Role

​To provide efficient and comprehensive support services to the clerking team and members and more generally to assist in the smooth and effective running of Chambers.

Specific Duties

  • Putting together electronic bundles
  • Completion of daily post book identifying date & recipient of post for record keeping
  • Photocopying, clearing paper jams, maintaining paper levels in all photocopiers
  • Ensure the post room is kept neat and tidy in accordance with Health & Safety regulations
  • Lodging authorities and skeleton arguments to the courts and tribunals
  • Transport of books and papers to and from court and tribunals, and other collections and deliveries as required
  • Assisting in provision of client’s refreshments as/when required
  • Assist in routine housekeeping tasks for Chambers as/when required
  • Developing familiarity with the general objectives and priorities of the Clerks Room
  • Work as a team with other Junior Clerks to ensure that all necessary tasks are performed daily and provide cover for other members of the team during vacations, sickness and other absences that may arise.
  • Researching authorities in libraries and on the internet for members
  • Book in papers on LEX. Accuracy is paramount in this task.
  • Timely return of files/briefs to solicitors as instructed by members ensuring that backlogs are kept to a minimum at all times.
  • Timely collection of boxes of material from members’ rooms designated for archiving.  
  • Ensure that all corridors & common areas throughout all buildings are kept in strict accordance with Health & Safety regulations. Reports of any persistent contraventions to be made to the Administration Director.  
  • Assisting with main number/roll over telephone calls
  • Any other tasks which may be required from time to time.

Person Specifications

  • A-Levels, BTEC, ILM Level 3/5, or equivalent qualifications preferred
  • School leavers, graduates, or candidates with 1–2 years of relevant experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated, proactive and eager to learn
  • Able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Team player with the ability to work independently when required
  • Professional, articulate and ambitious
